Frequently Asked Questions

There are several advantages to shopping from ChemClub Stores.

  • We are the exclusive vendor of some chemistry lab materials such as lab manuals and flame-resistant masks.
  • We are conveniently located in the Lash Miller building, just steps (or floors) away from your labs - although we recommend that you acquire your lab materials well in advance of your first lab section.
  • Our prices include tax! You can buy your lab materials for less compared to other on-campus retailers.
  • Our volunteer store clerks are graduate students that TA undergraduate labs and can help you check every item off your list of lab materials.

Your instructor will provide you with a list of lab materials that you will need for your lab.
If you are taking a first-year lab, you will need:

  • Your own lab manual
  • Your own lined, hardcover notebook
  • Indirectly vented safety goggles
  • 100% cotton lab coat
  • 10 pairs of nitrile gloves

Many lab materials can be reused for upper-year labs, but you will need to repurchase a lab manual (if a physical copy is available) and nitrile gloves.
All other materials are optional, but if you would like to wear a mask in the lab, instructors may require that it is a flame-resistant mask.

This section addresses the purchase of lab materials from other retailers / sharing with or inheriting lab materials from someone else.

  • Lab manuals:
    • Buying online: No. Lab manuals sold through ChemClub Stores are exclusively sold here.
    • Older versions: No. Content can change from year to year, and even within the same semester, it is advised that every student has their own lab manual unless they have the go-ahead from the lab instructor.
  • Lab notebook:
    • Buying online: Not advised. Chemistry lab notebooks must adhere to a specific standard (hardcover, not ring-bound, and lined) and we make sure that the materials you purchase meet your lab instructors' expectations.
    • Sharing materials: No. Notebooks are a record of your work in the lab and should not be shared with other students. However, you may reuse your lab notebook for other labs (if permitted by your lab instructor) that you are taking or will take in the future.
  • Safety goggles and lab coats:
    • Buying online: Not advised. At ChemClub Stores, we ensure that the PPE you purchase is up to standard with your lab instructors' expectations (indirectly vented safety goggles and 100% cotton lab coats - no material blends allowed).
    • Sharing materials: Not advised. Safety goggles and lab coats may be shared between students with labs at different times at their own risk. Safety goggles and lab coats can be used in other labs you are taking or will take in the future.
  • Nitrile gloves:
    • Buying online: Not advised. At ChemClub Stores, we ensure that the PPE you purchase is up to standard with your lab instructors' expectations (nitrile - not latex or rubber - and appropriate thickness for chemical handling).
    • Sharing materials: No. Nitrile gloves are intended to be single-use and will lose effectiveness with repeated wear. A ball of 10 pairs is sufficient per lab enrollment.

Due to the high volume of orders we process every term, all purchases are final sale. We have sample lab coat sizes to help you find the right size.
